My Westfailia will be parked outside for a rainy season here in Seattle. I searched the fourm for ideas, but I still have some questions.

First, I will be driving it 2-4 times a month. The typical outside humidity is 75-100%, and it sits under a fir & cedar trees (sap & pitch).

Tarp or no tarp, or a Bus Depot cover?
How to keep the inside dry? Small oil heater, or dehumidifier?
Should I make foil covered bubble wrap window covers?
My 1936 Ford Pick up is stored in a tarp garage (with a thick plastic floor) and it seems to hold up fine, with fuel stabilizer, and a trickel charger with no mice issues ect.[/list]

If you wanna keep the pitch and sap off, the costco portable carports are a great option. Wrapping the van with a tarp might allow moisture to get stuck. Carport allows access, breathing room for the van, etc

It’s advertised as a steel frame canopy. $390 10x20

Do you have the space to put up one of these inexpensive carports?

And for the humidity/moisture issue I'd run a small electric heater inside to keep the temps above ambient to prevent condensation on the inside.

Oops forgot to add. It's parked on the parking strip, so I can't do the tarp garage thing.

Ah! I'd go with the Bus Depot tarp that has the door opening.

I assume you do not have the ability to get electric out there.

If so you could consider this. Damp Rid.

Search out a "golden rod" designed for boats at storage.

Other side of the sound here, same situation.

Last winter I kept it in a storage unit which was nice an tall so the top could be up, had power, and allowed me to store some other crap, but also really expensive.

I am going with the busdepot cover this year and the damp rid mega bucket, i think i got it at Homedepot.

A guy who works for me has a camper for his truck that is stored outside on Whidbey Island. He has a small Peltier effect dehumidifier in the camper and it works for him. Like this https://aax-us-iad.amazon.com/x/c/RNhIVyea3Vsd1e1W...d2b620341.

As for pitch/sap, it dissolves in isopropyl alcohol. That way you can remove it without scratches. A paper towel will scratch paint but alcohol and cotton is damage free.

Thanks the dehumidifier is perfect.

Solution for me is the BD cover, silica gell, & dehumidifier..

The challenge will be cleaning the cover from the pitch & sap. But that will be a Spring time issue.

Thanks for the suggestions.
