|
|
I lost steering pulling into a parking spot. When I got under the bus, I saw the center of the torsion tube, where the swing lever arm sits, had rusted off to the point where it was just hanging by a thread.
I attached images to see better. I am considering welding it back together, but am not much of a welder so would love a second opinion on that. I am gonna get under it tomorrow and see how much of the structure is left after scraping the rust off. If it doesnt seem salvagable I will have to buy a new torsion tube completely. Never had to do that, so should be interesting.
Hoping someone can point in the best direction.
I'm a long way comin' and got a long way to go.
Thanks.

I would not drive with that beam, looks too roached to repair. _________________ 1965 Velvet Green DC |

Sorry dude, but that beam is toast. You need to find another one. Glad you are safe. |

Torsion tubes don't seem easy to come by. Anyone have experience replacing them? |

holy fuck...
i thought RI had inspections just did one for a guy in Coventry who failed for a couple minor things.
i may have a beam, but not sure i want to part with it. it's from a '70 so the brake booster plate would need to be swapped over and welded on....if that not roached too _________________

Time for a new beam - that's one of those keep-you-alive parts. I guarantee there's more there you don't see.
It's not as big a job as it sounds and a somewhat common issue for northern Buses. _________________ '78 Bus 2.0FI
