Some here would recognize this guy immediately, very prolific during 1960s to present although he’s probably slowed down some. While looking through some things I found this today. It’s not rare but it’s also not well known,

Better known for things like Fritz the cat, Mr. Natural and the keep on truckin logo. Zap comics etc. fabulous furry freak brothers. But here we just have a VW connection. Enjoy😀

The Fabulous Furry Freak Brothers was a creation of Gilbert Shelton.

Yep. Grew up surrounded by this guy's work. Of course he was tremendously influential. See the film Crumb if you can. Doesn't feature nearly enough footage of the guy drawing, but even a casual viewing reveals the guy as brilliant, terribly fucked-up, having come from a deeply, deeply troubling background. His brother's graphomania is the stuff of nightmares.

And of course, huge influence on Juniperus Scopulorum, better known as Peter Aschwanden, the illustrator of How To Keep Your Volkswagen Alive.

I laughed my ass off. Crumbs other two brothers are insane. Imagine living in Haight Ashbury alongside the Grateful Dead, Janis Joplin and orange sunshine. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Crumb_(film)

So check this out as well it’s Robert Crumb and band doing a cover of a much older song from the 1930s.

It's a cat song!

Wish Zwigoff had made a companion volume to Crumb, with just the guy drawing and talking.
Having made my living for several decades drawing pictures, watching a master at work is something I could do all day. The man knew where to put damn near every mark.

Think some of his best work is in American Splendor. Quieter but very effective.
