I have a 1965 Bug with an AE code 1600. Believe it is 1973 engine with early transmission as prior owner ground the high spots off the early transmission. I have a 200MM clutch as I measured it. I get it that I have yet to 0000 steel wool anything. I will alos be doing the main seal while I am in as there is some oil on the clutch and in the gland nut. Question:

1. Can I reuse my current flywheel as it looks relatively new?

Are the spots pits? You can have it machined if they aren't too deep. Or if your really need to proceed with that one as is, I'd at least hit the surface with a round vibrating sander.

Great question. I did check for spots or grooves and did not see any but it was late in the day and I was tired. I will look in the morning...thank you

If the "snout" of the flywheel - where the seal will make contact - is OK, you should be able to re-use the flywheel.

This is a great time to measure/adjust the end play too.

Replace the flywheel O-ring and the seal. After installing the seal, I oil the inside surface of the seal and the corresponding area on the flywheel snout.
