The title pretty much says it all. Speedo, odometer, and trip odometer all worked fine until recently the trip odometer got stuck at 0.9. I've reset the trip odo, and it does the same thing - the tenths of mile roll fine up to 0.9 and then it stops. I've searched around and haven't found this exact situation but am wondering if anyone's had this happen and if they've been able to fix it.

Fixing it correctly is simple, Take it out and put it in a box and send it To Palo Alto Speedometer. They will rebuild it and not just fix one of the issues through some Mickey Mouse hack.

I would pull the instrument cluster and take a look at the odo gears. You likely will see why it will not go past the 0.9 mark.

Let us know what you find.

When they stick, it's always at one or some of the 9s as it taks more torque to move the next cylinder from 0 to 1. A gear is slipping on the shaft. Sooner or later it happens to all VW odometers.

If you already work on your van this is not a huge challenge. The instrument cluster is pretty easy to remove and the repair is not difficult once you know what to do. Many of us have done this.

You'll wind up pulling one of the shafts out far enough to knurl the end, and when you reinstall everything the slipping gear will be on the knurled section.

Not the shaft in the photo but the one for the odo gears.
