As asking prices seem to be continually increasing, starting to wonder who is actually buying...
seeing ads for bugs, busses, porsches, etc in the $20's, 30's, 50's, 70's 100's of thousands..
What is the most you've ever paid for an air-cooled vw?
"turnkey" or as a project |

$1700.
It's been a while (1982 or so).
Then again I spent ten times that amount restoring my dad's Fastback a few years back. |

$1300 for my 1971 Convertible (in 1976). AM-FM radio (not stereo FM).
$1100 for my 1970 VW sedan with dealer-added AC (in late 1972). AM radio.
Still have both !

$2300 on a holey ‘74 autostick bug just a couple of months ago.
Thought it was cheap enough until I got under it. Been patching holes ever since and will end up not making even half my time’s worth. _________________ Some people are so busy being clever they don't have time enough to be wise. |

$11,000 (?) in 2015-ish for a running driving 67 single cab with many body work issues. Loved that vehicle but sold it in 2019 to help fund the Eurovan.
Prior to that, I paid $1000 in 2002 (2003?) for the 69 Bus. I probably paid a bit over market but it was available and I had target fixation on getting a bus. _________________ Larry in OB

The most I've ever paid for a VW is $2100, and then spent lots on upgrades.
Lets look at the other side of the question.
The most I would spend buying a VW might be in the $10K range.
There are a hell of a lot of other cars that I would spend $30k-$100K on, but never on a VW. _________________ 2017 Street Comp Champion - Thunder Valley Raceway Park - Noble, OK

$17,500 on a '51 3-fold split window with crotchcoolers, semaphores, and randars (wish I kept those wheels ) |

$200 for my ‘70 Ghia Coupe. That was back in ‘91.
After a full restoration and a recent refresh I have about $35,000 into it.
If I were to do it again, I would buy one already done but that’s mostly because I’m getting old and creaky. _________________ Volkswagen!

Paid $700 in 2010 for the '66 Beetle, my first and only air-cooled VW, and then spent several thousand more to get it usable. |
