Here's mine made a decade ago as a combination step and gatepost to keep ol' Hank from getting into the front while I'm driving.

He still liked to ride with his head poking through and his successor required improvements to the gate to keep her in the back.

Good idea but the site safety officer in me would maybe add some grip tape to the top to prevent a damp shoe or foot from slipping off during upper bunk mounting/dismounting acrobatics.

I like it. Just got back from a couple days camping and would like to find a good option such as this to facilitate the somewhat laborious task of climbing up and down, especially for my shorter companions. This gives me some great ideas.

if you slip on that at night and catch your shin on it, it's going to really hurt.

To appease safety officers, one could very easily screw in a small wooden plank to that top flange for a broader place to step on and not slip off. It could even easily be made removable when not in use.

Is there a good hardware store spray paint available that is a close match to the factory grey?

And easy way to bring a color sample into a store is to remove the van's door slider cover. It's only 2 screws.

Brilliant! Thank you. I have some extra black pipe laying around. Cleaning it up and painting is definitely going to be needed.

I use this as a close match to the interior gray paint.

Rustoleum Satin Granite

https://www.amazon.com/Rust-Oleum-249078-Painters-Purpose-12-Ounce/dp/B002BWORWM

And if you want to cover something dark like that pedestal I recommend a coat or two of white primer first.

very cool and am curious, why not just a 1" piece of pipe with a 1" flange rather than the coupling/reducer?

I like your ingenuity with the step to climb up to the ceiling bed. A year or so ago, after my wife had a knee replacement and recovery I bought this from GoWesty, and love it! At 70 she feel much more secure using it to get upstairs and back down.

https://www.gowesty.com/product/ladder-step-stool/24414/telescopic-ladder-?v=

Click on and check out the video. A bit more expensive (sort of) than your creative solution, but the GW ladder is pretty versatile all around the Camper... we're pretty happy with it.

Way to go!
