Please forgive me as I'm new to this. I'm VW dumb and a rookie. I purchased a bus. I really don't know what. I can't figure out how to create a form Q/A but found how to reply to one. This is semi-related. Can anyone help?
Chassis stamp reads 253831. Does this mean I have a 57?
engine stamp reads 7862586 is this engine a 63?
Also, where can I find the front axel stamp?
ANy suggestions on who to chat with re: value or sale?

Post a couple of different angle photos of your Bus and perhaps a photo of the vehicle identification plate from the VW factory and one close-up photo of the engine number stamping on the crankcase so we can better help you identify what you have...

VIN listing on the site
https://www.thesamba.com/vw/archives/info/chassisdating.php

A 253831 chassis/VIN # is from May, 1957 so Yes, 1957
7862586 - Yes, this is a 1963 40hp engine

It's on the front axle "arm" that comes out, by the right front wheel

You just bought it, so I’m guessing the value is pretty close to what you paid and are you looking to sell it already? There’s a classified section for vehicles.

And pictures will help ID what you’ve got and what sort of condition it’s in and what areas you should address first...
