Many buses that appear to have 12 volt systems - especially those that were originally 6 volts - actually have a mixture of 6 and 12 volt parts. A lot of places to look for clues on the original configuration have already been mentioned.

Two other places to look for clues as to the original configuration are the gas gauge and windshield wiper motor. Both likely will have a voltage designation marked on them. A 6 volt gas gauge will work without damage to it on a 12 volt system. A 6 volt wiper motor will run too fast on 12 volts and may not last long; a voltage converter (more than one way to do that) will look after that without replacing the wiper motor.

livingskies ... just so happens a friend is coming over this week to help me with some final wiring and the fuel gauge is just sitting place in the dash, not put in yet.
