I have a project Ghia that is missing a lot of pieces. I did not take it apart but I am trying to to piece it together. As I build the car with the parts that are missing, I noticed that the keyed ignition hole is not on the left side of the dash. I see no hole for a ignition switch. Did they have steering column locks as an option in 1965 or did some person weld shut the hole? I see nothing on the back side of the dash that would tell me that someone did. Thanks

I believe the US Ghia's of 65 (and possibly other years) came with a gearshift lock+ignition. In that version, the lock was also an ignition switch and there was no ignition switch on the dash.

This is what I've gathered as I researched my Euro 1965 (which had an ignition on the dash). Perhaps others can confirm.

I also have a 65 ghia with ignition lock.
Since there are no hole for ignition in the dash it must have come like that from factory.
