|

While I understand this is a bay window to 1979 page, I have not found the info I need elsewhere on the net. I have a 1995 Brazilian, narrow hatch, bay window panel van. I require a smaller diameter steering wheel but need to find an adapter however I do not know if the steering shaft splines for the 1995 are the same as early bays. Thanks in advance for any and all help. |

I don't think we're going to be able to help you much, other than to say that the splines changed around 1974/1975.
Apparently, however, we can use the Brazilian steering wheels on the later (post-'75) buses. I got one, but have not yet installed it.
Why do you "require" a smaller wheel? That will make it harder to drive, you know. You still need the same torque on the wheel to steer, but the smaller diameter will require more force applied. It's always that trade-off because physics. _________________ John

Hi and thanks for the reply. The 95 panel has a huge steering wheel (OG)and my 69 year old gut needs more room. Yup, clear on the physics and have a suicide knob to assist. Interesting the Brazilian steering wheels fit late bays like yours. BTW, great looking late bay DC. Almost bought one from the same person we bought the panel off of but didn't want to cough up the dough. |

For further queries regarding Brazilian built, 1997~2012, "bay-window" VW Type 2s, why not try the British forum. There are lots of these vehicles here!
