I have a 1978 Bus. it has the 2000cc Fuel injection..
when I try to crank it, Seems like the motor fills with fuel.. to the point it won't rotate.
It has a new double relay, New Fuel pump and regulated down to 30 psi...
I tested the Injectors with a noid light tester and it lights up..
I took injectors out and tested and look good. I hooked up to fuel pump and connected 8 volts to it. opened and had a nice circular pattern spray..
so it runs, When I cut power to Fuel pump.. My guess it is back feeding from the return line to the tank.. Then when it is running, and I hook up the Power wire to Fuel Pump Motor Instantly Dies ( Even at 2500 RPM)..
I did take the start valve out and block it off and cleaned it. had same results..
What am I missing??? So Close, But So Far... |

Welcome!
Is the temp sensor #2 plugged in?, it's the single wire near the #3 cylinder intake. _________________ Rust NEVER sleeps and stock never goes out of style.

If they have a continuous ground the injectors will be open continuously. Normally the ground is a pulsed signal from the ECU. A longer pulse than required can also cause flooding, if the flapper in the AFM were stuck open it could cause this.
Check the vacuum line for the FPR, it should not have gas in it. If it does have gas the diaphragm within the regulator has failed.
Bay people have the problem occasionally, but I don't remember hearing the solution. On a Digijet powered Vanagon the similar problem is a failure within the ECU. |

With the wheels chocked, slow the engine down with the clutch in 4th gear, almost to the brink of stalling. If the noid light stays solid, your injectors are getting constant ground and should be remedied. If the light flashes, even at a rapid pace, look elsewhere. You may need an above average helper for this one...
