My low oil light does NOT come on with engine off & key on. When I ground the the wire the light lights? Bad low oil light switch?

Also, no oil pressure reading on new gauge & new single pole sender. No, no teflon tape on threads. haven't unhooked sender wire to check yet, ran out of time today. Unhooked wire this morning, gauge does nothing. Hooked up voltmeter to sender wire, shows battery voltage which tells me I have a wire crossed or gauge is toast. Oil temp gauge goes to far right when sender wire is grounded so I'm assuming (that word again) it is going to function properly. Haven't been able to go for road test yet as ironing out other issues on buggy. Please help with low oil light & oil pressure gauge issue.

Remove switch and put a pressure gauge on the engine. Hopefully the motor is OK. Careful with the case threads, don't tighten it to much.

Are you grounding the sender wire on the case or on the chassis. Ground strap?

Grounding low oil switch wire to body of switch or oil pressure gauge & light lights so that is telling me ground to senders is good & wiring to & from warning light is good so kinda leaves the switch as the culprit, correct?

What car/engine is this for? VWs never had a "low oil" light.

If it is aftermarket, we need to know more or we are just guessing.

I think it should read "low oil pressure light"

Yes, low oil pressure light, obviously. My light won't come on unless I unhook the low pressure switch & ground the wire.

If the sensor does not work, replace it with one that works.

If your not sure if it works, test the conductivity.

As I stated, if I ground the wire the light comes on but not with koeo . Can I check ohms from switch terminal to ground.

So what your saying is...
the light works when the ignition is off,
but not when it's on?

Think

Once more, with key on & engine off the light does NOT come on. If I ground the wire to switch with key on the light lights. That tells me the circuitry to & from the light is 100%. I'm guessing thast the switch must be bad but it worked before I went to a single pole oil pressure sender.? Ohm meter hooked to ground & terminal on switch shows OL, open circuit.

Did you use Teflon tape on the sender?

Did sender have any sealant on threads right out of the box (some do, some don't) .... Try taking screwdriver and going across from sender body to engine case, with key on and if oil lamp lights it will tell you that the threads on sender is not connecting to ground on engine case through threads on sender....

Note sealant on threads...

This is disassembled sender....

A continuity check of sender its self is you should see minimal ohms from connector on sender to sender body.... IF you get infinity or a extremes amount of ohms you probably have defective sender right out of box.... Yes it happens with the great quality parts available today...
