Yes, it's weird but they are American sizing

Could be because I think in Germany seat belts were not required by law until 1976?
Back then when the split bus was produced in Germany the largest "seatbelt equipped market" was the US one, so that is probably why they made them to fit US seatbelts?

My Austrian 1966 split bus does not have seatbelt mounts.

Yes, seatbelts got mandatory in 1976 in Germany. And yes, the bolts are not metric...

Edit:

1974 it got mandatory for car manufacturers to install seatbelts.
1976 car passengers had to buckle up per law
Since 1984 you get fined for not using seatbelts

My guess is because they were installed in the United States. My original bill of sale the owner purchased his seatbelts. That means someone here had to put them in. I’m guessing in 1966 there weren’t too many metric bolts around here.

While we're on the topic, has anyone seen/found a source for the off white/ivory/nicotine yellow plastic washers that fit around the seat belt mounting bolts? I was just now looking at one from my 66 and it doesn't have a part number on either side of it, it's slightly deformed over the long years and appears to be very brittle. I think the ones at the walk through mounts are either broken or long gone.

Guessing since the seat belts were probably USA dealer installed back then, perhaps VW didn't make the components of the assemblies?

Hi BonTonRoulet-

I would call Wolfsburg West and ask them. They some times have items that are not listed.

Also, are these the items you are asking? Not in stock, but maybe call WCM and ask: https://www.westcoastmetric.com/i-22964393-111-781.html
