Hi All; just started putting my "74" Transporter back together after taking an 8 month hiatus (damn I hate working for a living). After gathering all the loose hardware and getting reacquainted where everything goes, I ran across this part that I can best describe as "A Flanged Tube."

I tried to figure out where it goes, but can't find it.

Does anyone know where this orphan's home should be??

it "looks" like a fuel tank outlet, missing the nut and the gasket, but it is a lot shorter than I am used to seeing on my early bay tank.

could it be the remains of an metal and glass type fuel filter. looks to have a nice round rust pattern around the center with some clean metal on the perimeter.

another picture with a different angle might help.

Some thing else in the pic for scale might help too, right now I'm going with the fuel tank outlet theory.

The rust indicates that that end is up and that water sits on it. I am going to go with it being a tank outlet that has been shortened.

Funny, I didn’t think of the tank outlet until I read the comments, but the “scale” was obvious to me as a bellhousing with a throw out bearing lubrication hole drilled in it Laughing

I think you guys are correct!! "Thanks"

I drained the tank months ago and tried to get access to the lower tank with one of those borescope camera's but ran into the pre-filter screen on the outlet. I guess it requires a, O-ring, which wasn't originally with it?? "Why" it didn't leak, I dunno??

That said; I pulled one of the big filler tubes off and stuck the camera down and there is some corrosion on the bottom of the tank, but not too bad. Gotta explore a fix for it, while I have the engine out!

That's my old and new fuel tank outlet I recently replaced. Definitely looks like my older, shorter one.

Now that you say that it's obvious, but for some reason I just wasn't thinking curved surface previously, it looked more like the back of a flywheel, or front side of the engine case. Razz
