So I read the older thread about front mounted spare carriers, which I have right now, but I am curious about rear-mounted ones.

The pictures Bloog put up are now gone and not in the photos area that I could find.

I just saw a Wilco hitch mounted swing out tire carrier and the review I read was mounted on a jeep. He had a "smaller spare" a 40 inch!

Just wondering if anyone has one, or has seen one in person.

I have a really nice hitch bought from a gentleman in Canada (he was on here), then I bought his front hitch for bicycles.

I think my Kumho spare is probably 1/3 the weight of a 40 inch off-road Jeep spare, so I don't think the weight is a factor, just wondering if it will swing out enough to access the engine compartment to check oil, etc.

There is a model that has the swing out pivot 30" over from the hitch, so I think that would be enough. https://www.jegs.com/i/Wilco-Offroad/393/UHG32206/10002/-1

Thoughts? (oh, and yes, I have AAA, and could leave the spare behind, but I'd rather not, and not interested in keeping a can of fix a flat in the bus).

Thanks for reading.

When my daughter bought her brand new 2013 Kia it didn’t have a spare. It came with a can of fix a flat and a small air compressor. I have a spare in my 1971 deluxe bus and room enough for two using our fold down rear seat. Personally I’m not a fan of front mounted spares and an even less fan of the kind of tire rack you’re asking about but to each his own. I wouldn’t hang gas can on my bus or install a roof rack either. Hell, I don’t even put decals on the windows but that’s me.

Last week I was working on a customers 1974 bus and noticed she had no spare. Then I thought about it and realized that she never takes her bus too far and can always just call for a AAA tow if she has problems

If I went with a rear hanging spare, I would search for a Landmark rear rack.

I didn't see the Go Westy one - I had seen their Vanagon ones.

I see it requires: 1. A heavy duty GW Bumper ($500), 2. a swing arm ($330), 3.Universal Carrier (the link that was on here)($230), and 4. Spare TIre mount kit. ($110)

$1170 total (I'm just putting $2000+ in the engine rebuild so it will not be happening this summer for sure!)

Thanks for posting, though, at least it is made for a bus!

if i could find a nice weatherproof/UV proof bag or container, i would seriously consider putting it up in my luggage area. I never keep anything up there anyway.

Go Westy has them: https://www.gowesty.com/product/cargo-exterior-/4347/-luggage-rack-cargo-bag-?v=

Bus Depot has them: https://www.busdepot.com/vanbag

Looks like the Go Westy is bigger and has nice handles on the side. it is $20 more.

I have a lot of dry bags from motorcycle camping, but these are the same size as the cargo bay, at a pretty good price. I would sitll pack stuff in dry bags or Zip Loc bags, as nothing is waterproof.

For the money - these are huge.
