I've seen pictures of what looks like clear putty or wax over the emblem tabs under the bonnet/hood. What years would have had that, and what would it have looked like? _________________ -Harry

Ah - so you are suggesting the putty is for replacement seals? _________________ -Harry

Does your emblem have pins or tabs? |

Pins. Was the putty used for tabs?
Thanks! _________________ -Harry

The later models with pins used these, pressed into the hood first, followed by the emblem:
Earlier models used tabs, which I think were sealed with a putty similar to that used to seal the tab gaps on the back (front) of the dash.
But those with early models can confirm or correct. |

Seen some original 1950s beetles that used butyl rubber AKA Dum Dum sealant. That type of sealant comes in a lot of forms from somewhat liquid in a can, to caulking gun tube, to ribbon tape. The last is probably the best for your use if that is your situation. _________________ In Stereo, Where Available! |
