Hi folks.
I'm taking a stab at installing the universal cruise control system.
I am fabbing a switch holder for a brake switch and a switch holder for the clutch switch.
Rostra want to see a ground on the violet lead when the cruise is engaged.
I picked up a universal normally closed stop light switch.
It is normally closed however when installed and riding the brake lever it is open.
I can't see how I can supply a ground when the brake is not used.
I think I need a normally open stop light switch that is closed when installed on the brake pedal to make this thing work.

Is there such a thing?

Yes, the clutch pedal switch should open when the pedal is depressed. The brake switch if you need to provide a continuous ground for the cruise, it should work like the clutch pedal switch.

It's opposite of how a mechanical brake light switch works. It completes the circuit when the bayonet comes out. So, you'd be looking for clutch pedal switches not brake pedal switches if I understand your question.

not sure if this one is of use for you, but it's available off amazon seller. Looks Generic enough for 2 flat pins with your wiring, and easy enough to cobble a mounting brake for the stem mounting section.

Rostra sells a clutch disengagement switch kit 250-4206 and it's available at many online sellers...

Here's a pic of it installed on my van...

For the brake switch, connect the Rostra purple to the Red/Black on the brake switch at the master cylinder. Given the VW brake switch is a pressure switch and it doesn't illuminate the brake lights until some pressure is applied I use the clutch to disengage the cruise 95% of the time.

I have my dash apart, here's the purple connected to the red/black...

Here are the install instructions with wiring suggestions...

Hi Jim

So...
I am looking for some pics. Smile
Specifically:
1) how you mounted the unit . I found one pic and I like the chosen spot and how you routed the cable.
2) how you attached to the TB.

Also did you have to splice extra lengths of wire so that you could get the signals up to the cab?
Any insight would be appreciated.

For the wire, I spliced in a 6(?) wire bundle in a sleeve to extend the wires to the front.

I'll post some better photos today, including the dip switch settings.

Controller installed...

Oh thank you.
I am using the Rostra VSS with 2 magnets.
I have the vss mounted on the passenger side and the control unit mounted like you.
I would love to get the settings. Rostra tech said use 2 magnets and 2000 ppm.
No idea if that is ball park or not.
I am running a zetec as well.
Can't wait to try it out, but I still have a lot of wiring to do and it takes a while to do a decent job.
thanks again
Jim

To extend the wires from the engine bay I used Ancor 8 conductor signal wire:

https://www.ancorproducts.com/en/158010

West Marine sells it by the foot...

The RF receiver box that receives signals from the wireless steering wheel control and cutoff switches and the Ancor wire...

Great thank you.
What are you using for VSS? I am going with the Rostra and 2 magnets.
Cheers
