Thanks everyone for the insight! I feel like I've done all I can with my limited skills and knowledge. Just going to have to delay road trip plans for right now and hang out here in Mt. Shasta for another day. Strangely every shop in the area is crazy busy but I have an appointment for 8am tomorrow morning.
Any recommendations on things to do here in town to pass the time would be most appreciated. |

Also curious if anyone can provide any insight into what I can expect $$$ from the shop tomorrow - even a ballpark idea would be helpful. |

Impossible (for me anyway) to predict what cost you will incur at the shop... likely impossible for them to predict too until they are into the job.
Working on old cars and working on exhaust fittings in particular just have too many possible surprises that can bite you. |

Thanks everyone for the support with this - here's how it played out:
Our diagnosis was spot on. The mechanic charged me $0 to fix it!!! It just required tightening those couple of bolts to get her purring again, though he did say that it's an old exhaust and there were a couple other minor leaks. We were able to continue on our way and have an epic rest of our trip!

Is it a bad idea to use exhaust repair paste right at that joint? I can feel the air coming out right at the seam of what I am pretty sure is the gasket |
I use Permatex Copper on both sides of the gaskets now with good results. |

I looked at the OP's YouTube video and noticed that your tailpipe is only hanging on by one of three fasteners. I assume the mechanic looked after that? If not, three new bolts, washers and nuts will fix it. _________________ '86 Syncro Westy SVX |
