Hey folks! After a few years under the shed, I finally dragged out the Oval to get it back on the road. Last time it ran, it shifted rough. No grinding or popping out of gear but I would get a thud when letting out on the clutch in addition to some movement of the shifter when accelerating and decelerating.
The mounts are all chewed up so I am going to replace them, but the nose cone looks pretty munged up also. I'm guessing the best thing is to replace it? I've done some googling and am not finding any nose cones earlier than 59. Any suggestions on where I can find one, or will one of the later models fit?
Here is a pic for reference.

that is not a 56 trans. it would of came with a split case . clean the crud off the nosecone and find the part number. it is most likely a bus nosecone 211 301 205h
that is what is normally used to install a later tunnel trans in a early car.
looks like it was ground down ? it may be ok. I would change it . trans is 61 on up.

I'll look for some numbers. Any suggestions on where they might be?
Also, should there be a brass bushing in sticking out the end? I guess I could just replace that, but a new nose cone does not seem too pricey so I'd just assume replace. |

it's on the flat side on the left. easy to find. part # 211 301 205h .
no nothing sticks out of it. later /replacement nosecones have a push on seal.
that looks like a early one . _________________ 55 deluxe 23 window bus

nope not a split case. numbers look to be to be a tunnel trans from 63. a split case would look like your motor. it splits in half to re-build . hence the name.
the 133 # is the part # the other is the serial # . look ON the nosecone for the #.
Steve
one from a tunnel trans beetle hence the 113 # _________________ 55 deluxe 23 window bus

nope. 1960 beetle was still a split case. the nosecone from a split case will not fit on 61-on up trans they do not interchange. they hacked the end of the one you have to make it fit and kind of work. it sit's the nose higher . that is why you have rough shifting most likely. you need 211 301 205h and hockey stick.
I looked around a little can't find any in stock new.
the pic of the nosecone above is not the one on the split case trans sorry to confuse. _________________ 55 deluxe 23 window bus

Found one here: https://www.ebay.com/itm/123110987231?epid=25022742668
Is there an article or thread you can share that explains what the hockey shit does? If it's angled up like that how will it connect to the shift coupler? |

I would not use the cb rhino mounts myself . unless you like noise. unless your running a big motor or something. the seamless boots are not worth the hassle .
super pain to install got to taking the axle tubes off . get split boots.
install seam at 8 or 2 o'clock. what I would do. not sure on the EMPI
hockey stick. does not show the factory part#? I would make sure it is correct
vw # 113 311 541 . I would try to get elsewhere . EMPI = crappy china part.
edit again: wolfburgwest.com has the hockey stick in stock. $20 not sure
what brand they sell . usually they sell good parts .

those are probably worse noise makers than the rhino's . those are different.
I would use rhino's over the red urethane one's . the wolfsburgwest duro-meter
one's are a little firmer than stock. without added noise. my choice. _________________ 55 deluxe 23 window bus
