Fellow air ride folks,
I was under my oval today when I noticed what I think may be a missing lock nut from the passenger shock. I have an Airkewld ride system and have been noticing an odd wobble. Regardless of the wobble should there be a lock nut on that passenger shock?
TIA

zooming in on the picture it looks like the nut is inside your bushing. |

I just noticed that as well. I will take a closer look. I guess the question is whether it should be inside the bushing or outside like the driver side?

I was thinking about this today, on and off, while working. The situation was just not sitting right. Then it hit me! Most engineering authorities state that there should be 1 to 3 threads exposed after the lock nut has been installed. In your case there are zero, to less than zero, so the lock nut is actually doing nothing!!! This is not good!
That stud needs to be longer or a narrower shock component needs to be found OR the manufacture of that knuckle needs to make you a new part that conforms with sound engineering practices. I would choose the later option!
Industry rule of thumb is 2 full threads. I am sure someone says differently, but it is what I was taught and have lived by. _________________ Jimbo

I'll agree it doesn't look right and the nut should go on further. wrong bushing no washer and wrong nut |
