Need a new shifter. Have an Empi/Hurst style trigger shifter with no maker logo on it. Cable is broken so can’t reach reverse.

I don’t like the T-handle style. I do like this one: http://vwparts.aircooled.net/Vintage-Speed-13-1-2-Speed-Shifter-155-795-50700-p/155-795-50700.htm

But it’s like 4x what I’d pay for an Empi one that is pretty close to my broken one. Anyone want to try to convince me why I should spend 4x the money on the Vintage Speed model?

Car is mostly stock DD look. Not a show car. Has a 1776, so it scoots around.

I actually like the empi ( Hurst copy ) style shifter.
I have an OG shifter in one car and the other 2 have the copy.

I couldn't tell the difference in feel between them.

I've been running the Empi/Hurst copy shifter for over 16 yrs. It's been a great shifter and it was used when I got it.

Make sure your shift rod is in good shape and if possible...install an adjustable rod end on the shift rod.
It will give you infinite adjustability and makes it simple to adjust the shifter for positive shifts.

My ‘67 came with an EMPI T handle short shifter and I hated it. I switched it out for that Vintage Speed shifter and I absolutely love it. Looks awesome in the car, and shifts much more precise. I highly recommend the VS.

berg also make a "ball" shifter instead of the "T" handle

If you buy your clothes at walmart though, empi will suit you fine- Wink

Aircooled does not stock these shifters, they are dropped shipped from VS. looks like they are the same price in the VS website and they give you the additional option of getting the Porsche bushing to reduce vibration. I don’t see that option on Aircooleds site. I’ve never use a VS shifter, but it it’s like their exhaust systems I’m sure the quality is top notch.

When I purchased my Berg Shifter years ago I after trying all I could find on the market, including cutting stock shifter down ( that steel is a bitch to cut ) for less travel and the Empi little quick shift kits.

Right off off I was amazed how the Berg instantly felt better, that said the shifters I have seen that have come after the Berg I cannot comment about, but they look amazing, and some have great reviews.

Well, I do really like the VS shifter. Annoyingly, it seems that the cast aluminum base isn’t available until August, while the other two CNC base options each add about $50 or $60 to the price.

My vote is for the Vintage Speed unit, that classic unit is what is in my car right now. I like it better than all the others I have tried.

This series is one of the best if not the best shifter on the market today. https://www.csp-shop.com/en/transmission/shifter-c...1622930970
Many dragracers/weekend warriors in this region of the world have swopped from Berg to this due to the shifting precission.
If you like the look of a stock shifter or a Hurst style, then they are probably the ones to buy, but they are not in the same league as the CSP. For normal street use the difference between a Berg and a CSP is minor. I guess we can call it finetuning Smile - and to some extend who likes the mom and who likes the daughter.

Does the reverse mechanism on the CSP shifter slide in the shaft, or does it have a sort of collar that slides up into the ball similar to the Hurst style ones?

Any idea where we can get those Porsche ball cup bushings on their own?

Alstrurp USA Dollars $334, it is expensive but when I bought my Berg I would say the cost of the Berg was about what the CSP is now.

It is never easy to part with money. I found eye glasses I loved but the price was 4 times of what a good pair i would normally buy.

My wife said " it is something you wear on your face every day and you think you look better wearing them. Go for it"

I look at shifters the same way. Think about it what is one of the most important parts on a car that allows you to really enjoy your ride, the shifter.

As soon as I got the Berg I knew I made the right choice, never looked back at spending the money. Nothing compared to it finally I was happy.

I did remove the Berg inscription on the shifter, my idea of a clean look.

Well that was until found my Vehicle Identification tag and thought it would look good on the Glove compartment door. The eye of the beholder thing!!

Personally, I’ve never liked the T handles or trigger shifters.
I’ve always had a stock shifter with a simple short throw kit.
Shifts great. Never a problem with grabbing reverse instead of 2nd.
Plus, you can change shift knobs at will to suit your mood, the season or the theme of a show or event.
