My rear tailgate lock cylinder will only rotate about 1/8 of an inch and comes to a hard stop. I’m thinking I may have a broken or stuck lock cylinder pin or wafer. I have sprayed it several times with WD-40 and worked it back-and-forth and back-and-forth. No change.
Can anyone tell me how to remove and disassemble this lock cylinder for inspection? Picture attached.

After looking it over pretty thoroughly I decided a trip to a local locksmith was in order. I took the complete latch assembly over there where they had to knock out a roll pan and when they pulled the lock cylinder out they found one of the pins was disintegrating and had seized the lock cylinder preventing it from Rotating. They cleaned and flushed out the lock cylinder and just eliminated that pin completely as lock Saunders can still work as they should with a reduced number of pins no then lubricated it up and reassembled and I was good to go |

Glad you figured it out. I was using a key on the back hatch for the first time in a long while last night. It looks like it is not the typical key lock. There was 3 positions? Open, lock, and key fob operation. If in the lock position, the key fob unlock does not work.
I was surprised and thought of your thread. Seems overly complicated. _________________ 2002 EVC |
