The picture below is from the top of the steering column from a buggy. I'm hoping someone can help me identify the correct bearing or bushing that fits. The current bearing fits in the tube that covers the steering column, but there is a ton of space between that and the column itself. Hence the steering wheel has a lot of movement.
I tried the bearing from a '67, but the diameter was too small. Could it be the tube and the steering column are from different cars altogether?
The spline measures about 18mm in diameter, and a 24mm nut fits on the threads.

My buggie had the stock vw steering rod inside a 2” PVC pipe painted silver, no bearings... I’m not saying that yours is that bad, but don’t just assume it was ever “correct” _________________ it's more fun loud and dirty |

I tried the part from Wolfsburg West (113415585A) for the 67s and earlier, but it is too small in diameter. |

I was wondering if perhaps that is a '60-'61 column. I don't see that bearing listed at any VW parts house. The columns look the same from the outside and have the same steering wheel splines as the '62-'67, but have some internal differences. _________________
