The commenters in the article are not very kind with the author - essentially, blaming her lack of preparation and unreal expectations. _________________ 87 Syncro Westy EJ25 ("Tardis")

Check out the photo of her checking into the campground. Should she even be driving with her right foot in a cast? _________________ '91 Westfalia GL Automatic (GTA "Turbo" Rebuild w/Peloquin) and 2.3L GoWesty Engine |

Even when I sucked at it, sleeping on the floor of my first tin top Vanagon/oven way back in the prior century, I found no reason to complain. I slept in parking lots along the Redneck Riviera for several weeks, hot as hell and bugs galore, and still loved it. I either jumped in the Gulf or washed up at gas stations or friends' places and was perfectly happy. (I wasn't trying to work or be un-sweaty, though.)
I think you either like it or you don't. If creature comforts are that important, find another way to travel.

I grew up with no air conditioning. Not in the house or the car until my first Vanagon in 1995. The AC pooped out in 1999 and never got fixed. I just lay a big beach towel over the seat and roll down some windows. I get queasy being in a ice cold car and stepping out into 80+ degree weather and vice versa over and over. |

Funny but she is griping about all the typical van-camping imperfections. _________________ Vanagon ’83 diesel AAZ w/Giles injection, 5spd 4.57R&P+TBD and a '78 diesel Rabbit |

Basically they need people to click on the article, to get paid by the advertisers..
Popular subjects get more clicks than unknown subjects.
#vanlife makes it popular.
Controversy gets clicks, gets the advertising dollars

I could only get through a few paragraphs. Sounds like somebody should never visit the exquisite beaches of Bali and anywhere tropical. Insufferable. I remember when people didn’t like something and didn’t do it again. Now it’s important to share with everyone, like they are the first to experience a let down. Click!

Isn't it wonderful how much smarter we are that she is. And how exactly did we get so smart? Remember the "improvements" we made to fix everything she mentioned because we found ourselves slightly uncomfortable? And since so many of us have totally tuned up Westies, standing up and airlessness has been solved for us. For us tintoppers, we have improvised until we have the comfort we want.
