Brazil had buses from 1957 on. They produced splits up until 1975. |
Would the tag they have pictured be correct or possibly transplanted? |

Looks like a brand new rivet. Mine all have flat head screws holding it on. |

Your tag is screwed on at the air box? That seems odd.
But I agree, that tag does not look right. It almost looks plastic. _________________ 1973 Standard Beetle - running maintenance thread - https://www.thesamba.com/vw/forum/viewtopic.php?t=675712&highlight=

it is a high hinge cargo door bus. German buses had those to 61. Brazilian buses to the end of production. This is absolutely a brazilian bus. _________________ regards

The outline in the paint from the previous shorter tag is also a clue. _________________ Rust NEVER sleeps and stock never goes out of style.

You’re right, I was thinking about the tag on my 64 deluxe that’s in the engine bay. |

Tag
This is a strange position for that style of tag as that shape is usually in the engine compartment but maybe that's normal for Brazilian Buses?
The rivets are definitely new.
I can see it has a "BH" serial number, which is Brazilian, so it could be the original tag. _________________ How to Post Photos

That bus isn't a 1964 Brazilian bus. Closer to a 1974. The early brazilian busses look more correct like German busses. Wide lip doglegs, Outie vents, flat rear wheel wells, pointed Speedo pod, but with pressed bumpers.
This one has the pressed vw logo in the nose. Makes it a late Brazilian. |

Yep. Obvious Brazilian. That, and a KM speedo, plus all the other things everyone else has brought up. _________________ 1973 Standard Beetle - running maintenance thread - https://www.thesamba.com/vw/forum/viewtopic.php?t=675712&highlight=

Just below that tag looks to be where a shorter tag would have originally been attached. It had been painted over at some point and removed leaving that old paint edge. Suppose that tag could be original to the bus, but not at that location. |

That's pretty normal for brazilian busses. Even German busses without the option of 6 popouts. Most deluxe busses were used to seeing here in the US have the 6 popout package. |
