Looks as if this guy has them, but they're not cheap.

https://www.ebay.com/itm/353458083108?epid=2154540199&hash=item524bbe5524:g:gyYAAOSwbs9f617Y

No affiliation, but someone who also goes by the name porshnut, and is from Nebraska, is a seller on this site as well. I'm guessing the same guy. He may be willing to offer this at a lower price if you contact him directly. Good luck!

l heard that Tuttle Parts in Riverside, bought up $15k worth when they went NLA.
my local engine builder, now won't build me any more WBX engines, as he can't get the bearings Sad

l don't know if they will sell the bearings, or just complete engines.

$250 for a good set of bearings is a decent amd reasonable price.

this will be an issue for many things, not just VW parts as we are about to see some serious inflation. the urge is to stock up on 2.1 parts, but do i really want yet another box of parts hanging around?

^^my response to this is stocking up my bank account for the inevitable conversion to an electric vanagon I hope to have available to me in kit form in the forseeable future.

the Clevite/Mahle catalog no longer shows a main bearing application for the 2.1 in block 15/page 730.

i've had these guys make some custom bearings in the past.

not cheap, and not fast:

https://www.kingbearings.com/

here's the rub with these old girls.....

these manufacturers have been hit by C19 and shortages just like all of us have. i was told by a company rep a few weeks ago once things "stabilize" they will pump out the more profitable parts and may consider dumping any slow moving "classic" parts.

bottom line is they will cater to the fast moving more profitable parts. if they sell 200k doodads for 2010-2018 cars and only 12k doodads for 1960-1988 cars annually they will redirect materials to the more profitable end of the spectrum.

sadly, i think this is only the tip of the iceberg for many things. the entire world has been destabilized in a lot of ways

I'm just lucky to have a new oem crankshaft and a bearing set for it sitting on the shelf.
If you want to keep these things you have to plan for the inevitable future.

You can always rebuild your 2.1 in a 1.9 case if you're really desperate.

For the long term now ya kinda need to think that way, but ya also need to think what the next evolution of the Vanagon/Syncro is.

I think SyncroJael and others have taken there's to the highest level they could for the gas powered version, next is diesel. The coming trend and within 10-15 yrs. will become viable is electric power.

So is buying engine parts a good choice? Well, the value of these parts will hold their own and maybe increase in value so not going to lose money.

The consumables - Tune up parts, brake pads and disc's are still available, but when I see the NGK spark plug cost $14.00 each at the FLAPS and a gallon of Swepco oil go from $65.00 to over a $100.00 in 5 yrs. I think seriously about spares!

received 2 sets of these... KS mains, STD size. $125 ea after shipping from outside the US. interesting they are KS bearings but distributed by JP Group Classic Line. took a gamble that i'll need STD size on the next couple engines.
