I am going to replace my floor pans.My question is can it be done without body removal? I know the proper way is to remove it but are the results just about the same if I were to cut the old ones out and weld the new ones in?
Thanks in advance. _________________ 1971 Super Beetle |

It can be done. Depending on how much of the pan you are gonna replace.
I've graphed in battery trays with the body intact.
Never had to replace a complete pan half. But I imagine that it would be easier to replace a complete half with the body removed. Or at least raised up a bit.
TDCTDI did a body lift on his 58. Maybe this thread can give you some ideas on how to lift the body a bit.

Look for the BugMe videos, google and samba search. They have one in which that's exactly what they do. _________________ Eventually, "we are what we pretend to be.’”

This is a world of knowledge and well worth the money. I got them for my restoration and was glad I did! They cover not removing the body and doing the floor pans, step-by-step. Good luck! _________________ 1971 Super Convertible "Gigi", Lemon Yellow (Factory Zitronengelb L-11E)

Almost anything is possible, but you are taking big chances of having welding / grinding sparks damaging headliner , panels and glass. .............. Welding with wet blankets around you is no fun either. |

WAY EASIER with the body off!!!! Plus you do not ruin the headliner or glass! I think those are 2 strong pluses. Additionally, you gain the ability to move freely around the pan! And painting it is easier as well!
Why would you do it with the body on? That really should be the question. _________________ Jimbo
