I have a 1975 westfalia and shifting into reverse and 1-4 up great but downshifting from 3 to 2 grinds and I can’t get it into gear. Any advice on where to start looking into this issue?

It shouldn't grind if the revs are right. Try double clutching and give the gas a little kick in between and it should just slide in.

You may be trying to downshift with the revs too high. Double clutching will help with that.

Often I'll pop from 3rd into neutral and let it slow a bit before I hit 2nd. There are a few tricks. It's all in the feel of getting the right revs.

Make sure your reverse lockout plate is adjusted properly so that you aren't actually grinding it in reverse.

Sadly if someone ran an old fashion stinky GL-5 gear oil in your box the synchros may be damaged and the only solution is to have them replaced. Going back to the factory recommended GL-4 oil will likely not fix the shifting at this point.
