103 degrees. Too hot for Yosemite Valley today!
My small electric fan was great comfort last night.
Decided not to stay another night, returned home to Fresno.
Back in Fresno, at Trader Joes-- Met a family from Minn. with an
'85 Westy. NO air conditioning, two young kids (parched), and shared-
the oppressive heat made them decide to sell their Westy after this trip.
In the Summer Heat of the Central CA Valley, having working
AC in your Westy is an essential item !!! ... and a small 12V elec. fan
blowin on your sleeping area on warm nights is the best thing ever.

Uff da! BTDT...AND I'm from MN...
Working AC was a critical necessity before we ever did any real summer road trips!
Here's one of my favorite pics from Moab, July 2018:
Having said that, I think Yosemite is pretty cool whatever the time of year...???

my my how did we ever survive in the old (pre-1990's) days..
well one thing is people travelled less in the high heat of summer.
it's fairly predictable..
https://www.climatespy.com/climate/summary/united-states/california/fresno-yosemite-intl
it's a place that has an AVERAGE HIGH temp (for July a it is) of *99.1f

The warmest month in Fresno Yosemite International, Fresno, California is July with an average high temperature of 99.1°F |
seriously what'cha expect?
edit: fwiw AC can be added to ANY van for less than the price of a new sprinter van. _________________

I'll be camping 4th of July weekend in the foothills of NC, expecting 90/90 days at least (90 degrees, 90% humidity).
Here's how that becomes luxurious for me and my dogs- obviously an electric site is needed.
That costs WAY less than a new Sprinter van. _________________ 1991 Vanagon GL 2.1 AT Westfauxlia. "Frankie" Totaled https://www.thesamba.com/vw/forum/viewtopic.php?t=764510&highlight=carnage

Glad you were able to get out! We were in Yosemite a few years ago and went down through Merced and it was well over 100F.
We leave for our summer trip this Saturday and are headed towards Moab and then down to Durango. Right now Moab is forecasted to be 105F when we are there. Ouch. We have no AC (or cruise control) and have battled many hot summer road trips with our kids. Builds character. We use fans and spray bottles to stay cool.
If it gets too hot we will head for higher ground if possible.

THIS! The laws of physics, temperature, pressure and altitude are universal.
You'll be 15° cooler at the top of La Sal Mountain...

What’s your point here? Today is the first day of summer. It gets HOT in Fresno. I wouldn’t expect it to be nearly as warm in Yosemite valley. I don’t see the correlation and didn’t click the link.
Are you saying OP should expect this heat or just tough it out? |

Bingo! When I worked the summer of 2018 in Moab doing 4wd tours in Arches & Canyonlands and it was 106° driving up to 5000' altitude was a nice relief from the heat and the view was fantastic! _________________ This free advice is worth exactly what you paid for it.

Safe travels! I know y'all are road warriors but I'd avoid traveling in Utah in the middle part of the day if possible. Windows down, buffeted by 100 degree wind, it really takes it out of you. Our July traverse of the Great Basin from Oregon back to Denver a few years back during a heat wave is what got me to seriously consider AC for the first time. _________________ Joe T.

Yep. I travel from 4am to 10am on days like that. Then find shade and water for the rest of the day.
It is amazing how much cooler it is in the shade out there. That is where the low humidity makes a big difference. Evaporative cooling really helps.
Back here in the humid East when it is that hot you can not escape, the humidity makes even the shade miserable... _________________ Dave O

yeah I won't drive to the mason-dixon line much less below it after the summer solstice till fall.
I'm sure it's better up on the blue ridge Mtns.. but then I'd imagine everyone is up there.
we travel NORTH in summer, SOUTH in fall/spring.. *if they'd only reopen the US/CA border that is.
that Minnesotan family just wasn't aware how hot hot is in the west in summer. _________________

You guys made me remember our honeymoon, Yes Yosemite is extreme in regards to temperatures we beat the hot weather before it got to the Sierras in March. We had a great time not without having to do some mechanical work when I got to the park. Please dont ask for specifics haha We barely made it lol! But like we say in our country "Lo bailado nadie nos lo quita" meaning that the fun that we had nothing will take it away. Heres some pics of it.
