Thanks, I've heard that the shoes are out of round a bit and take time.

What is your brake bleeding and adjusting procedure? A LOT of new VW owners do it completely wrong. _________________ 1960 Indigo Blue Ragtop (Blue Barry)

I'm not completely sure how they did it.
I aim to do it right, please let me know how to proceed. _________________ Lawrence

I didn’t realize you were having a shop do the work. In that case I would take it back to them and have them do it right. Brakes in my 60 stop on a dime. Brakes in my 64 stopped on a dime and I’m a hobbyist. If you’re not going to do the work, I would find a shop that specializes in vintage VWs. If you are going to maintain it yourself, buy the John Muir book “How to keep your VW alive” and read through it. It’s written on a very basic level for the home mechanic and gives a list of the tools and such needed for each job. IMO it essential for every new VW owner. _________________ 1960 Indigo Blue Ragtop (Blue Barry)

I've owned Volkswagens for almost forty years and now I'm having a shop do most of the work. Unfortunately, I had this brake job done by someone who didn't quite reach the mark. I just had to get the car back from him and get on with the show. I took it to a good friend's shop here locally, and he adjusted the shoes, and looked everything over. He thinks the Chinese master they used isn't great and ordered a Brazilian one. We adjusted many things on the car too, front end play, steering box, and shift coupler. They previous owner had left the old battery under the rear seat, so that got taken out. As with any of these old cars, people did funky things to them, I intend on getting the thing straightened out.

I did new light seals today on all of the rear lights and my friend had some correct overriders that I swapped out for the stupid '67 ones that were on the car.
A lot of small stuff makes the whole car better a little at a time.

Funny, I found an old mirror in my old crap and installed it on the car. It might be too early, but I don't really care. It looks cool, nonetheless. _________________ Lawrence

Here are the new WW running boards we installed. I'm quite pleased with the outcome.

I easily found the seat belt pickups on the tunnel, where are the ones one the heater channel side?
I know I'm going to have to order the WW reducer for the larger hole.
Anybody? _________________ Lawrence

I put WW seat belts in my 67, they came with directions that said measure 51/2 inches back from the back side of the seat track. And 1 and a half inches out from the tunnel, and 7/8s of an inch out from the edge of the heater channels. Just about the same as mukluks post, I also put large fender washers on the bolts under the pan. |

Why did they make the car with tunnel seatbelt pickups and not any for the heater channel side?
It doesn't make sense and doesn't sound very Teutonic. _________________ Lawrence

Because the early factory seat belts were only shoulder belts, not the typical lap or three point belts most are familiar with. The factory belt mounts were at the tunnel and about halfway up the rear quarter glass on the B pillar. If one wanted three point belts or lap belts, an additional mount had to be installed in the pan. Later cars had the lower outboard mount point installed at the factory just forward of the rear seat bottom at the base of the B pillar.
*edit*
Small correction, the factory upper mount for the shoulder belt on your car is near the bottom front corner of the quarter window, not halfway up it.

Wonderful little car! And a good work you are doing. I love original pearl white cars up to 1963.
If you have absolutely no chance and no idea to get the original clay beige tone for your wheels, you can take RAL 7006 beige grey.
I did it on my car and am pleasured with it. The difference is minimal. |

Please go to https://www.wolfsburgwest.com/
Right there on the home page: Need details on Original Colors?
You will get all the color combos. Paint for exterior, interior, running boards, seat frames, shifter, etc, etc. They are like a bible for the VWs. |
