Must be a very good feeling to put it of the jig, step after step this Barnddor getting his new life!

Good work man!

Sadly we not live next to each other, there would be some good material to talk about while a beer... Laughing

Built a rotisserie. Still a few details to finish but good enough for now. Mostly made from stuff I had around. Very happy with how it works. Has enough adjustment for a complete bus body or maby a 356 or something.

I will finish off the bottom details and put it back on the jig to build up the body.

Little more on the B pillar. Lot of work in rebuilding these parts but coming along nicely.

Fits the pattern. Would be almost impossible to insure the correct shape without it. Will be very useful when building the left wall also.

Ruffing out a few more repair parts. Seems like this bit will be relatively easy.

Started repairing the B pillar.

I made a pattern off our 64. There was considerable difference between left and right and front to back. It seemed the right B pillar is a good average and probably the most accurate.

Made the new bottom section. Was a pain as it would not fit properly in the shrinker.

Not sure how the bottom should look like. Does anyone have a photo of the lower pillar inside the rocker?

On to something new.

B pillar separated and a quick media blast. Once repaired they will get blasted again. They were a pain to seperate as the spot welds are in a channel. I will leave the outer skin and door latch panel together. That joint looks perfect.

The pillar was leaded at the header joint. It was such a bad job that t though it was sloppy weld that was half ground off. Removed with torch and wire wheel. Probably not the suggested technique.

Now to start repairing

Yes but wanted to use the original to insure everything fitted perfect. New panel is almost finished.

Floor in. Sill some welding to do. The floor welds to the frame from below.

I clamped/bolted everything in place and used tape to mark the alignment. Then removed and spot welded panels together. I used the original pedal panel to insure everything was correct.

I want to say a big thank you for all the nice comments I get. I usually don't respond unless asked a question but I do appreciate them all.

This project has been about enjoying the process. It is not about wanting a restored barndoor but the challenge of restoring/building one to the best of my abilities. I don't even know what I will do with it once done. In reality I would rather have a beat up SC to daily drive than a fully restored barndoor. Smile

About 2 years into the metal work on this and I expect another 2 to get to paint. I am very happy with how it is coming along and having a great time.

Also a big thank you to all that have helped out with information. And to all that have created build threads. Without the BD community I would be lost on many of the details.

I am looking forward to this year getting started on the upper body. New challenges are a bit scary but the success are so rewarding.

Thanks all and happy new year.
Stan

After this I start on the B pillars then A pillars and front structure. It will be mostly rust repair for awhile but next new parts will likely be the front drip rails.

Also I will start experimenting with the rear floor panels soon. Will make a few test parts before attempting a full floor panel. I may press each rib or bead roll ribs and press the ends. I am now leaning towards pressing ribs as the quality is very nice.

Floor panels tidied up, media blasted and a layer of zinc.

Very happy with how they came out and was a lot of fun. When I started this restoration I was worried the front floor would be hard to get perfect. Has taken a lot of time and experimenting to develop the process but worth it for me as I do this for fun.

I will get these welded in this week and then on to the upper body.

Another couple parts ruffed out. I need to make a punch to creat the brake cover tabs. That will take some experimenting.

Another part mostly done.

I still have clutch notch and heater duct hole and general tiding before it is ready to weld in.
