Hi Group,

Were oval Cabriolets ever offered in two tone color scheme like the early cars?

Thanks

Well Ted2, according to JT Garwood, in the Car of the Century, volume one...

… on page 320, there is a note stating: convertibles were offered in single tones only for 1954 - 2 tone convertible paint combinations were strictly special order, custom paintjobs.

On page 286, it is noted: convertible models were offered in the solid, main colors alone or ordered with a secondary option also - for 1953

… i see no similar note for other ovals - 1955, 1956 or 1957

Then, for split-era cars, on early 1953 (Zwitter) and back, convertibles - secondary optional colors are available on convertibles only - that info's on page 272

Bottom Line, Ted2 - if Garwood is accurate, secondary convertible colors on ovals - 1953 to 1957 - were by special order ONLY - z

I remember this from another thread

IN2VWS wrote:
I have a 10/1955 Salesmans manual, and it lists option M903 as "Special finish of side panels - Convertible ONLY".
To me this indicates it was available for the 1956 model year as an option.

I remember seeing a 2 tone 56 vert back in the day at one of the Jamboree shows. Guy said it was original paint which it did look like as it was pretty worn. Two tone gray with non ribbed doors.

… couldda' been a special order - sounds nice...

personally, I like one color on a simple car - don't understand what folks like about all those extras on a Bug - z
