I have noticed that a lot of us have named our vehicle. Just curious what inspired your van’s moniker. Mine is rather obvious… _________________ “Most everyone’s mad here. You may have noticed I am not quite all there myself.” — Cheshire Cat, Adventures of Alice in Wonderland

It's sort of like a van, made by Volkswagen. They call it a portmanteau. _________________ '91 Westfalia 2.1L auto |

My bus 'R1' got its name as if it was akin to the 'droid' R2D2.. As in, R1R1 is its paint code, so we just call it R1. _________________ '87 Westy 'Flossie','86 Westy 'R1','86 tintop GL - Subi2.2 'J2','83.5 stock tintop L 'ZoomBus','74 Karmann Ghia, '63 Notch |

It seems there are two types of people: those who name their vehicles and those who don't.
The closest I get to naming vehicles is "the black car", "the blue motorcycle", etc. That's worked thus far although my dear traveling companion sure likes calling the van "bullet" (as in silver, as in the opposite of speeding..). |

Ida May
Ida is the stern yet sensible wolfram grey haired grandmother from the movie Misty of chincoteague, which was our first big trip from home (after fly and drive California to RI). The May was added as "Ida May make it up this hill...." _________________ 87 westy (2.4)

I named mine in honor of Dr. Werner Von Braun, who lived in Huntsville, Alabama where the van was originally sold, and worked at Redstone Arsenal where the original owners also worked. Plus, I'm a big fan of space history! _________________ 1986 Volkswagen Vanagon Westfalia "Von Westy"

Hercules - My first bus had the spare tire mounted on the front of the van. Embossed across the sidewall of the tire was the tire brand name "Hercules". The name has stuck through my third van now. _________________ 89 Westy 2.1 Auto |

My father-in-law served on the USS Mugford during WWII so Mugford is the name and DD-389 is on the bumper. |
