You are really doing great work Hütti. And by the way, your photos are really good as well ! It will be cool seeing this in real life ! |
Nothing interesting to see here, i worked nearly every day 5-8 hours on the roof windows.
We now have a 19 Window deluxe.
The whole roof is crazy soft wiggle metal, every spot needs a lot of adjustment, and beer, a lot of beer.

Drilled the thick metal off tho get the inner frame out:
Sone cutouts from the left side:
Started the passenger side:
Adjust, measuring, clamp, cut, adjust, measuring, hammering, and spoted:
Still two outer window frames todo:

Hütti, thx for having us on Friday and your touring of the shop, the DLX build, parts and projects and some more projects, and then some more parts, projects, restored drivers and some more project parts..... . It was amazing and very enjoyable! Hoping to be back soon !
The DLX is coming out great and the build is second to none really. It also has a real cool vibe going. The patina is unbelievably cool to see in real life. The 57SC is killer and the daily T2a SC was real fun taking it out for a short trip. Huge respect to your efforts!
I am not talking about the place you are living and working because - in the language of our international readers- it is simply mind blowing....hahaha

I have no advice for the seal/window placement, just wanted to say that your weld dressing and metal finishing always is always an impressive sight. |

i finish the weld on the first window,
it needs a whole evening, and 1.3 m of welding, on the complete roof i had to weld anything around 16 Meters, so 52.49 ft

52.49'...that's a lot of tacks. What a marathon, keep it up! |

Unfortunately i don’t made a picture from the inside before i put it out again.
The lip goes good over the metal, i think the window should flush deeper with better seals and with some kind of lubricate, but i am afraid of that step before painting 😬
But on the pictures it is to far out right?
I also have some good used rubbers and a set of nos rubbers, they look way better shape, but i don’t want to install that rare og rubbers twice, so i had to do first the paint and the headliner.
Picture from the og used rubber vs. the repro one (bottom one)
Tack, grind, hammer, weld, grind, hammer…….:
Because someone asking because the burntrough and the backside of the roofwelds:
I hope you guys like what you see here 😅

Your welding and metal work continues to impress. I have a question - there are spaces between your welds that look finished - are you grinding/finishing your initial tack welds before you do the remaining welding? |

i love watching welding. I personally do not weld, never even tried it, and i have a welder...
anyway, would it be less work if you used a tig instead? less grinding? _________________ regards

I’m exactly like you, haven’t done it, but have a welder with the intention of learning by practicing on scraps.
I believe TIG welding requires the surfaces to be free of contaminates, like meticulously clean, and produces more heat. I don’t know how well that mixes with trying to preserve as much original paint as possible.
***EDIT*** I totally jinxed myself by saying above that I had a welder and never used it. Clutch tube broke completely free on my way home on Friday, so I spent all day today getting familiar with it and putting it all back together. Tough project for a first-timer. |
