So what are the options when you can't find the late 64 (actually 65 up) Beetle door Lock Mechanism? The paddle type. Why doesn't anyone reproduce them? Can everything be changed to the earlier style? Asking before I tear it all apart again.
Thanks everyone. |

WW lists one for 56-64. It says through chassis#5 888 184 USA Delivery Cars only through 1966. Not sure if this will help you, it is WW part number 111-837-015B maybe someone in the parts department can shed some info on this. WW= Wolfsburg West. |

My chassis # is in the 1965 range and the WW west part is for before that number, I'm not looking for the handle but the mechanism inside the door. Thank you for the inputs though. |

Ahhhh you want the latch.. totally read it wrong. .
Yes late 1964, 1965 and 1966 are the ones you seek.
Basically 2 year only parts and US specific are not exaclty a hot commodity in the reproduction niche VW world.
Place a want ad. (I probably have at least 6 pairs so PM me if you're interested)
What is the problem with yours?
Most times they need some lube and the little little C shaped channel gets bent or deformed. A little tweaking and it works fine. The main issue usually starts as they wear and the "paddle" of the handle starts to touch the C shaped channel without pressing the button. It doesnt allow the latch to properly reset itself. They must be some static clearance between the handle paddle and the C channel plate.
