Thank you for sharing! Very, very, very cool article! As an avid espresso drinker, that piece of ingenuity has a place in my heart! I have kept an open eye for over 30 years, and never has one crossed my path. Well, one time, a buddy called and said he saw one on eBay. I never found it. That’s as close as I have gotten.

The coffee may be less than palatable, but the experience would be paramount!

This dashboard espresso maker has been covered a few times here.
I agree that it is a cool piece. It would make a great addition to your oval.

I used this coffee maker at this years Bug Run. My Air Force daughter gave it to me as a Xmas gift, when she was stationed in Italy.
Three cups from that thing and it felt like I had electric hair. Or what's left of it! Very Happy

Perry, I have had that exact one, several years ago! Got it from a great friend who had spent time roaming around in Italy. I have, since getting it, burned through it and several other espresso machines. The younger me consumed up to 8 shots a day! Now, I limit myself to 2, but Jones for more!!!

First of all itīs not a VW specific accessory. It was sold for other cars as well.
Hence the 12 Volt version as well. (see article above)

Also it absolutly not rare, I have probably had 5-6 over the years, and know several people that own one. Personally I think itīs just silly.

It seems anything German from the 1950s is exotic in US and people belive anything they read these days.

I see steering wheels, horn buttons etc for sale being sold as VW parts all the time- while itīs really for cars like DKW, Borgward, NSU, Ford, MB, Tempo , Deutz etc etc.

"rare" items are relative - means different things, to everyone - our friend's 1909 Carter Car - 9 produced is rare, in my book...

… the coffee maker is not something you see every day - usually means, it was a silly idea and did not sell well - z
