Anyone here bidding on this? https://www.copart.com/lot/46208221/salvage-1972-volkswagen-bus-nc-raleigh

This was mine before the insurance bought it from me. Curious to know who is going to get it. This is what it looked like in better condition.

No major injuries and everyone involved is good. I had 8 staples in my head. It was me driving with my daughter in the passenger seat. I was making a left turn when hit from the rear "pit maneuver". This caused us to roll. We do not know how many times we rolled the police report states "Rolled several times.

glad you're ok, and hope you got paid.

that said, as of this writing it's at 1900 bux. people are nuts. i don't see 2k in parts on that in it's current condition.

not a dig against you or the bus but i just don't see it.

I’m glad that y’all are ok, at least it was covered by USAA, you stood a much better chance of a fair payout than most of the other insurance scumbags.

I agree with the $1.900 being to much. I can see $5,000 in parts but you have the work and effort to tear it down. The engine should still be in good condition and it is a 2.0l from a Porsch. $500. was my limit to buy it back.

USAA was very good to me. I have no complaints on what they did.

Wow, holy crap.

Glad you and your daughter weren't seriously injured.

Also I'm honestly surprised at how un-distorted the bus is after rolling several times. When I first looked at the auction listing, I assumed it had just been rear ended.

i suppose if you were going to keep it and swap out stuff for another build it would make sense.

for some schmuck to buy it it's a gamble...but every auction usually is.

what was the final price? i can't find any info on it

I am also surprised. I think if it landed upright I would have still been able to drive it.

I am also surprised all my welds held up. There were a lot of new panels I had welded in on the rear where it is crushed and it bent up along with the rest original metal.

I have honestly been pretty surprised by some posts I've seen on here of busses in accidents. I tend to consider my Bus a pretty unsafe vehicle, just based on the forward control nature of it.

But there have been multiple rollovers posted, and a guy named stuart rear-ended a car going highway speeds and somehow walked away with bumps and bruises. I can't seem to find any photos of it, but it was pretty gnarly.

Not that I plan on crashing anytime soon. Laughing

I agree I am very thankfully surprised. I was always a little worried about the seat belts. I had replaced the fixed belts with retractable belts that were meant for a Beatle. They held us in our seats as they should. When we came to rest my daughter was above me still held in place as if sitting upright.

The one warning I will give everyone is the items stowed in the Bus should be strapped in place. Items I had in the rear above the motor inside of Rubbermaid containers were found on the front dash. Very lucky none of those items hit us.

Yeah, that's sound advice in any car. I knew someone who was seriously injured when an alternator he had in the cargo area of his Subaru Outback hit him in the back of the head in a rear-end accident. If it had been strapped down, or if he even had the cargo cover up. He would not have needed nearly as many stitches in his head.

That one is ready for the crusher. A yonke needs to strip anything of worth off it and squish it.

Even stuff that's bolted down can be a hazard. About 30 years ago I T-boned a Honda CRX while driving about 50-55mph, (she got cited) the spare tire broke free of the hold down strap and ended up between both front seats. I'd have been in far worse shape if it had hit me on the back of my head. Bus was totaled.

The VW Gods were smiling upon him that day. He's part cat I think. Laughing

I have several parts on my 77 that came from that bus. All good vibes, no bad juju.
