|
|
Hello, I own this 77 Spirit camper and it will be painted in the next couple of months, and I'm considering having these 2 side vents eliminated and covering those 2 openings. The top one is where the stove goes and the bottom one is the door to access the fridge rear and the gas connection.
I'm considering having them sealed so that moisture, heat, bugs and spiders from going into the vehicle.
I see in other campers that a vent is placed on the inside in one of the cabinets, is this for the heat to escape from the stove?
I want to reposition the stove and fridge in a different spot but with this layout I'm kinda forced to leave them in the same place.
What else should I consider?
Thank you

You should consider the risk of carbon monoxide poisoning if you block off ventilation for an LPG stove, if that is how the stove installation is designed.
Also increased condensation from burning LPG without ventilation.
However in many bus installations, the cooker uses the ventilation from a window and a roof vent, or just a window that opens. So you probably have enough opening windows for the cooker. You open the windows when you cook and close them afterwards.
But if the fridge is gas powered it needs the ventilation to make it work properly with the windows closed, as well as sending fumes outside.
You may have to fit fridge vents in the new location or use an electric compressor fridge.
Consider fitting a mesh inside for spiders. _________________ Ancient vehicles and vessels

Thanks "mikedjames" for the clarification regarding the risk of carbon monoxide (CO). My new fridge works with 12V/AC so it seems I only have to consider venting the CO produced by the stove, so if I always open a window when using the stove AND add a grill/vent in the inside on one of the cabinets, I should be OK, then, right?

If you are not using the original fridge and stove and do not care about originality - then put the new stuff where ever you want and cover up those huge openings. _________________

Depends on the fridge, some still rely on lots of air flow to cool the condenser, if it's cooped up behind a cabinet it may not be able to cool anything, or you'll just hot up the inside of the bus. Consult your fridges installation instructions for venting requirements. _________________ Rust NEVER sleeps and stock never goes out of style.
