Thinking about adding auxiliary lights to our 1990 Carat with factory fiberglass bumpers. How have some of you addressed mounting challenges with these bumpers?

The second owners of mine simply drilled two holes on top and bolted them down (they came with their own adjustable brackets). They were on the van for over a decade.

(They've since been removed and the holes filled in.)

I got stainless brackets from a European vendor..can't remember which but same as this:

Very pleased. 2 different mounting position already drilled in metal bumper under fiberglass..easy..

Use the brackets that come with the lights and use big fender washers to distribute the load onto the fiberglass.
I've got a pair of Hella 700 driving lights, the big ones, mounted for 5 years & no problems.

The previous owner of dabaron's Westy just drilled two holes.

I plan on removing them when I rebuild the bumper.

Had mounts made of aluminum plate for Hella's heaviest lamps. There is a larger plate inside the bumper, so it sandwiches the fiberglas protectively. Zero wiggle, unmatched lighting output:

Drilled holes and fender washers worked great on mine for years. No wobble or lean or cracking. Have since switched to steel bumpers, however.
