Thinking about adding auxiliary lights to our 1990 Carat with factory fiberglass bumpers. How have some of you addressed mounting challenges with these bumpers? _________________ “Most everyone’s mad here. The second owners of mine simply drilled two holes on top and bolted them down (they came with their own adjustable brackets). They were on the van for over a decade.
(They've since been removed and the holes filled in.) _________________ ~Kamz

Very pleased. 2 different mounting position already drilled in metal bumper under fiberglass..easy.. |

Use the brackets that come with the lights and use big fender washers to distribute the load onto the fiberglass.
I've got a pair of Hella 700 driving lights, the big ones, mounted for 5 years & no problems. _________________ This free advice is worth exactly what you paid for it.

Had mounts made of aluminum plate for Hella's heaviest lamps. There is a larger plate inside the bumper, so it sandwiches the fiberglas protectively. Zero wiggle, unmatched lighting output:

Drilled holes and fender washers worked great on mine for years. No wobble or lean or cracking. Have since switched to steel bumpers, however. _________________ 1988 Tintop Wolfsburg Special Edition - "Meatloaf"
