Yep our pond (spring fed ) has not dropped this summer, a little hazy last week for a day or two. High of seventy today. _________________ "Albatross"! |

Drove up US 395 last week taking a long detour into Nevada to get around the one Northern California fire and then camped at a hot springs only a few miles from the large fire in southern Oregon. We were told to be ready to leave on a moments notice, but the fire laid done well over night and we awoke to blue skies. Certainly been hazy in north central Oregon since our return but nothing all that bothersome. |

Spare loaded distributor

Is there any specific model of distributor I need for this specific type of engine with carburator? Some folks recommend "009 Distributor, [made in] North America", but seems it's out of stock on aircooled.net - should I stick to this one? |

The problem is someone stole the twin carbs your 1972 bus came with, and replaced it with thst crappy center mount carb.
The distributor has to get the right vacuum signal from the carb to advance correctly.
This is a typical bad cascade of life cycle in a Bay Bus, good OG parts are replaced with marginal crap based on price , and then poor running frustrates you.
Long term, it’s good to work your way back to the OG parts

An exact copy of whatever your bus has in it when running well.
Those of us who have replaced them on a hot engine know it's easiest to pre-install and time the spare distributor so you won't be fumbling around on the side of the road, one nut/wire and you're done.

It’s a spare. I’d suggest an 009 and it can be a good used one.
Here’s one for $40 or contact Bill Fowler for a nicer one

Normally I would as well, but if the OP is mechanically challenged finding a spare that uses the same cap and wire configuration would make that roadside swap so much more simple, leave the wires in the cap and snap it onto the new distributor. _________________ Rust NEVER sleeps and stock never goes out of style.

That’s a good point but then you aren’t swapping in a good distributor cap _________________ Lead Mechanic: San Diego Air and Space Museum

I like Wildthings's list but want to add
-Magnetic pickup tool- so much easier than using a fork out of your kitchen box to retrieve that fallen #3 spark plug
-"claw" pickup tool for when the above is too short
-magnetic bowl for holding any nuts and washers and tin screws you may remove
-sandpaper
-small brass wire brush for cleaning out cv joint bolt heads or if you forget your toothbrush
-hookup wires with roachclips
-safety wire
-tire valve installation tool
-pry bar and/or crowbar
-hacksaw _________________ 1976 unrestored daily driver Standard bus, "Stella"
