Wondering whats causing my 2.1 to blow oil out the front main oil seal at high speed driving only?? It wont blow by the seal at normal in town low speed trips. When I go on longer highway trips at higher speeds it blows oil through the front main seal. uuugh!!! The oil is never near the full mark on the dip stick and my breather tower is not plugged and the hose going to the intake is not collapsed.
Is it common for the front main seal to go bad after so many miles or years???
Anyone else had or have the same issue???
Thanks

on a vanagon, front is front. so are you talking the front main seal adjacent to the transmission or the 'front' main seal by the belt pulley, called a rear seal.

either location, high blow by pressures from a worn piston rings can force oil out the seal by pressurizing the crankcase under high engine loads.

other things can cause this too... worn flywheel surfaces with a groove where the seal rides, worn bearings allowing the crankshaft to move about, worn out seals, etc. all lead to a worn out wallet.

Normal engine convention is the rear of the engine faces the load so the front seal on a Vanagon is behind the pulley and not the flywheel. Best to say flywheel seal and pulley seal so the VW type will understand.
