|
|
Hi All
Looking for some help with what seems like a simple issue. Working on a 73 Bus, cleaning fuel tank, carbs... getting it going again. I have a new mechanical fuel pump, #8115201100 and its inliet size is larger than whats in place now. ~8mm inlet vs 6mm in the old pump. The tank outlet is ~6mm. I've looked up the pump at a few sources and it seems right. I dont know whats been done to this bus before but also dont know bus's as well as this group. I'm sure the folks in the know are shaking their head at my simple question
Do I have the right pump? Is there a larger tank outlet fitting available somewhere? I havent found a rebuild kit for the existing pump, anyone have a source? Maybe a custom hose I'm not finding?
I dont like the idea of adding reducers or having a loose fuel line connection if at all possible.
Thanks for your help |

usually the difference gets taken care of with a fuel filter that's got 'stepped' input & output nipples, like the WIX brand filter meant for air cooled VWs . Can't recall the WIX p/n right now but it feature two separate diameters on both input & output so two separate diameter fuel lines can be snugged up.
Very much like the fuel filter intended for fuel injection VW, which has a two different diameters for input & output as well. |

Thanks, very helpful. This is a carb type 4. I'll look again for a part # on the existing pump, now I'm curious to know whats in place vs what it should be.
Existing is a line from the tank to the pump then the filter is in the engine compartment. The stepped up filter idea makes sense, assuming its between the tank and the pump. |

Yeah, those clear plastic jobbers work well as fuel line diameter adapters. _________________ Lead Mechanic: San Diego Air and Space Museum
