center line is coming right across upstate NY..
right across lake ontario..
it was really neat to see the 2017 eclipse out at sea in Charleston, SC

April 8th can be 70's and sun or snow here in Upstate NY...
so it's difficult to plan but I do plan to have a group plan for our VW club (and VW guests.. ) but will have to figure that out in 2023...

On my radar. Brendan (my son) and I saw the last one at a friends place in Missouri on a river off the Mississippi. Magical.

Is this an invitation? Smile. We are looking for a quiet place to watch this. Will be driving from Oregon with the family.

I am usually in Baja Sur at that time so I am thinking about putting my van on the ferry at La Paz and heading over to Mazatlan which is smack dab in the middle of the totality.

Meetup for eclipse beach camping?

Today, New York made their campgrounds available early for the eclipse. Normally they only allow reservations 6 months in advance. I got a spot at Allegany SP. Better hurry!

I'm going to Arkansas.

Last one in 2017 was awesome. Total solar eclipses are just a once or twice in a lifetime opportunity you can drive to (I think, I've not researched it).

If you think you're invincible, watching the moon swat out the sun puts things in perspective. Air cools down noticeably. It gets quiet. Magic happens.

Thanks for that post.

Don't miss this opportunity. The next one might be cloudy.

Here's video I took from the last one. Yes, I might have been more interested in the MILFs.

I did not know that light would do this before and after totality when I saw the near-total eclipse in Atlanta in 1984. This picture was taken at the 2017 total eclipse at Cumberland Mountain State Park in Tennessee. It's almost as mysterious as the eclipse itself.

By the way, the difference between a total eclipse and even a "near-total" eclipse is the difference between, well, night and day.

agreed,
get as close to the centerline as you can..

I had the pleasure to catch the 2017 on the beach @ Charleston, SC as it left the eastern seaboard.. was quite the sight to see...

and the coastal beach wasn't shabby either.

Maybe the Hoosier National Forest might be cool? Coming from SWVA and it's about 6.5 hours away.

During the totality, remember to secure your VW vans! They say Sasquatch comes out to dance under the midday moon, and he might just mistake your retro ride for a groovy dance partner!

Even just five feet outside the totality and you dont get anywhere near the full effect.
You want to be right in that zone so dont travel 99% of the way and just figure thats good enough.
Photos and videos cannot even begin to capture what the experience is like.

April 8th is great camping weather on mexican beaches

This is a great interactive map of the eclipse: http://xjubier.free.fr/en/site_pages/solar_eclipse...0&LC=1

Click on any part of the map and you will get information about the event at that site. I'm a bit disappointed that totality will only last 1 minute 32 seconds at Allegany State Park, but, after a long search, I feel lucky to get any state park site.

Time stands still during totality anyway.

Nice map!

My Sister In Law is about a half mile from the center line of totality.

We drove to SC for the last one and found an unoccupied shooting range in a state forest directly in the path of totality. It was quite an experience and we've discussed driving to OH for the next one, about half again as far for totality. Might save that drive for a better look at the Northern Lights instead.
