Aloha,
I am currently seeking information from anyone on here that has successfully brought over a VW or classic vehicle and successfully registered it and got it safety inspected. I am importing a 1965 Bus from Europe and I am familiar with the customs requirements which will be cleared in LA before its journey on Matson to Hawaii. The bus is a 1965 so it doesn't have the federal safety sticker on it as it isn't required. But I have heard stories of people being unsuccessful registering here because of that little sticker. Also, it appears the bus might fall under 'Street Rod' according to Hawaii, what is up with that? God I love the laws here

| Have you considered registering in a different US state and not even telling Hawaii that is was imported? |

Hi there, I have. The only issue is that state would be California since that’s where the bus is headed on the ship and I don’t want to pay the California sales tax or crazy fees. I guess I could look into another state but I’m also worried that the bus might have to be present for inspection in each individual state. Unless someone has any ideas? |

| Register it in Vermont. No inspection required. |

Looks like a VIN inspection is required since it is currently registered in a foreign country.  |
