|
My son went out 4x4ing and came across this split window in a ravine that will be challenging to pull out. The frame and floor seem in really solid condition overall, we're in a desert area and the body panels we dug out have minimal rust. Looks to have a walk thru. Took a pic of the VIN plate, but need help deciphering it. What year is it? My son wants to pull it out and bring it home. Is it worth pulling out, does it have any value? Thanks in advance!

Wow, that poor thing is beat. Maybe a few usable parts but not much?
I wouldn’t let the seat frames get away at least, for sure…
It was a pretty cool cool red walk thru 1959 Kombi at one point in it’s life! |

Weird it has a decklid that is green on the underside.
Maybe replaced with a later Turquoise Green decklid at some point?
There are definitely some usable parts (I think) and it would be a fun project to extract but not much value there...
I agree on the seat frames.
Front bumper too, those can always been straightened if it's just tweaked and it actually looks decent.
Anything in the back cargo area? _________________ How to Post Photos

Always fun to find something like this but normally its the other way around like the lower 6" is crusty but the top is the gone section. I'm curious what the right side looks like if you guys are going to really get at it, Ah? Good luck. _________________ 1951 Split Standard Hoffman Build

It's a nice find, I wonder what the story is - useable parts like people have said, frame is a good place to start. |

That’s no place for a bus! Terrible to imagine the sight of it falling down there.
Good on you for bringing it back out! _________________ 1977 Sage Green Westy

I imagine that, like Humpty Dumpty, it was pushed.
People have told me, with great joy, about pushing VWs down hills like that.
In some parts of Canada there are small towns where everyone knows everyone' business three generations back. You might go to the closest town and ask people over 60 about pushing an old bus down a hill 40 years ago. _________________ The Obsolete Air-Cooled Documentation Project http://oacdp.org/ |

… get it out, any way, you can - I once bought a 1962 bus and pulled it out of it's resting place with my 1971 TLC, FJ40 in 4x4 mode - chain-sawed trees, in the way - about 1/2 a mile - then lifted it on to a trailer - been workin' on it since 2007 - needs a lot - z
