I've built a bed off the Reimo style hinges. As in other posts, in the seated position it's very uncomfortable for long trips.

Waldo made mention of grinding a bit of the "c" shape where the hinges rest in the seated position.

Im curious if the westy seat is also uncomfortable, or does it have a more reclined/relaxed position? My co-worker has a Westy and at glance it looks more relaxed.

I'd be open to possibly swap over it has more comfort!

Since the start of COVID I've spent over 2,000 hours sitting on the rear bench of a Westy, mostly full days of 7-9 hours for 4-5 days a week as I used my van as a wfh/on-the-road office. 100% perfectly comfortable for me, but I've also spent 17 hours driving the van over 900 miles and find the stock driver's seat perfectly comfortable as well. Not GTI comfortable but still plenty comfy.

Either VW built seats with me in mind or I'm in seating comfort denial.

There is nothing about either set of hinges that makes one more comfortable than the other. The install geometry is up to you. I have a feeling you have it installed with the seat too flat and the back too vertical. I would adjust the entire hinge so that the seat has some slant to the rear and consequently the back will be more reclined.

Seating dimensions have been puzzled over for centuries. Here are some considerations:

The reimo hinges are designed on the Bay window body geometry, so the cushions are sit higher and you need a bed platform over the engine.
They made non-raised ones too, but those are NLA.
You can use thinner cushions to compensate, but that not adds to comfort.
I saw somewhere on old german forums that you can modify the position of the hinges to have a non-raised position.
