Finished the project, woot woot! The USB outlet and the radio work as they should and the sound is pretty good. I’m very happy with how everything turned out! I even stopped by the upholstery shop and got a quote on a new headliner. Will most likely do that in the spring.
Here’s a bunch of pics and a video.

New carpeting in the rear
Speakers in the parcel tray
Rear seat came out super nice.
Kick panel speakers and dash, I’m happy with the speaker install

Sounds great!
I noticed in the pics, your car has the rear seat safety belt shoulder mounts.
I always find it odd that the earlier cars had that feature and the later (67) cars did not. _________________ I have learned over the years.

^The guy who built the engine thought it had the nut welded into the piller because it was a Euro car. I don’t know if that’s true, just a idea. The nut was hidden behind the headliner, which had to be cut away to expose it. _________________ __________

Got a few hours with the car today. I adjusted the brakes, aired up the tires (25 psi front and 30 psi rear), adjusted the valves (#2 exhaust was a bit loose, #1 exhaust was a bit tight), installed new FelPro VS 26062 blue strip cork valve cover gaskets and I tightened the belt. Hoping to find the time change the engine and the transaxle oil in the next couple of days.
I loaded up the ski gear and the car is ready to go to the resort in the morning. It’s gonna be a cold one tomorrow, good thing the car has killer heat.

Holy crap is it cold today!
Although it was beyond freezing, the engine started right up with help from the Kats sump heater. The car crushed the drive and the heat was epic! We only stayed at the Resort for 3 hours because it was -3° up there.
When we got home I got busy working on the car, even though it was only 11°. I put the car on 4 jack stands, changed the oil, new filter and changed the transaxle oil. I stuck with Mobil 1 15/50 with a Mobil 1 301A filter. My local Walmart had Super Tech 80/90 in stock, something they hardly ever have, so I switched from STP to that. It is GL5, but it states it safe for yellow metals. It gets good reviews and I’ve used it in my bus before.
My vacation is coming to an end and I feel like I accomplished a lot this week.
My best bud, Orchid, has hung out with me in the driveway all week. She’s an excellent dog.

I have to tell you, Rich - I love the look of this car! The paint, the stance, and all of the subtle mods you have made to it. Every time I see pictures of it from any angle, it makes me smile. Don't ever paint it! _________________ Dave

I agree, rich, you’re doing a great job making that thing into the epitome of a great daily driver. _________________ Robert in Memphis

^Thanks guys!!!!!
There I was ripping it up to the ski resort this morning and I noticed the oil pressure was down about 3 psi. Hmm. When I got to the parking lot the green light was coming on at idle. This has not been happening lately, so I knew something was up. My buddy MTNbus was there and I pulled the dipstick and sure as shit it smelled like gas. Went skiing, had a blast and had lunch at the mountain top restaurant. On the way home I noticed the same thing with the oil PSI, so I went to the store and bought oil and a filter. When I got home it was fully warm and was holding 10 PSI at idle, so that was good. While it was warm I dropped the oil, it definitely smelt like gas. It always sounds good with fresh oil in it. I’m gonna have to carve out some time in the near future and tear into the carbs. C’est la vie.

Yea, it sucks. The gas really cleaned the case out, that oil was super dirty. Had been 2500 miles since it happened. All threads point to the floats being to high or the needle and seat failing. I’ll start there. _________________ __________

Don't forget to check your fuel pressure. Pressure higher than spec has the same effect as excessively high float level or needle valves not sealing. _________________ 1960 Ragtop w/Semaphores "Inga" |

Ok, I finally got the car back in action. I ordered a new Brosol fuel pump. Once it arrived I installed it then the following weekend I pulled apart the carbs and checked the floats. The 1/2 side was perfect at 10mm and the 3/4 side was at 12mm, so I adjusted it down to 10mm. I changed the oil and filter, got everything back together and it wouldn’t start. Turns out the pump I bought didn’t work, it wouldn’t pump fuel. Luckily I was able to return it and I ordered a Pierburg pump from FCP Euro. Then we went on a 1896 mile trip on our ‘71 westy. Just got back from that trip this evening and the pump was waiting for me. I installed the new pump and got the car fired up. I drove it to town to grab some groceries and it ran excellent. It was nice it be back in it. I’ll drive it for the next few days and see if the problem persists. I sure hope it doesn’t.

3 days driving the car and so far no gas in the oil. I ended up adding a vented gas cap that I had in the stash. Although my vent line is clear, I figured it couldn’t hurt. It’s nice to be back in the car again! _________________ __________

I felt like I could still smell oil in the gas. I feel like I’m always gonna smell it, so I had some friends smell it and they agreed. So I ordered and received new Weber 1,75 needle and seats from Pegasus Auto . They are genuine Weber ones and a little different than the ones I removed. They have holes drilled in them and the ones I removed didn’t have those. I also noticed some debris in the 1/2 seat, maybe my issue. But, what I removed had Viton tip ls and should have still been able to seal. I set the floats to 11 mm with 32.5mm drop. I changed the oil again, 4th time in 500 miles. Hopefully this fixes my issue.
