Early Hood Handle fasteners

I have an NOS hood handle for my 67. M6x1.00 bolts seems to have the wrong thread. Anybody know what the correct thread would be?

If you're referring to the chrome hood trim - the parts book says it's a "Screw, Fillister hd, AM 6x15" and that's listed for all years...but I know the early hood trim uses the M6 bolt.

I was able to get an m6x1.00 started. There seems to be some sort of paint in the threads and I was reluctant to apply much force for fear of stripping the threads.
