Question,.. years ago it was common for folks to remove the factory oil cooler and adapt a larger cooler to the front side of the fan intake. It supposedly improved efficiency by unblocking air flow to cylinders 3 & 4. Living in the desert, it's important.
Is this still practiced and does anyone have an opinion?
Thanks, Jim.

No one does it anymore. Putting a cooler in front of the fan just pre heats the air that cools the engine.

The way to add a cooler is to do a full flow setup which also adds a remote filter.

Then you can mount a remote cooler under the car with a thermostat fan,

We ran back and forth from Long Beach to Vegas doing 80 plus and once over the border and in NV we floored the rest of the way in and never over heated and this was probably 3 times a year. Watch your oil temp. it will tell you if you need something fixed.

You're lucky. The NHP typically has cars camped out on the I-15 NB onramps in Primm (ex-Stateline) to wait for folks speeding down the mountain from CA. I've seen them pop more than a few folks which is why I never speed through there.

Back in the 60's NV had no speed limit away from towns so it was peddle to the metal once you hit the city limits or crossed into NV.
